Previous Updates 7/30 Update: I have a lot of updates ready, but I haven't had time to do any of them. Hopefully this weekend! But I did update the tournament pages with the recent results, don't forget about the G1 Climax! 7/26 Update: The All Japan Tournament page has been updated, and don't forget to enter your picks for the Fire Festival! It is still really, really close. You can send in a Pick'em for the Fire Festival even if you didn't send one for the All Japan Tournament, as there are seperate prizes. 7/23 Update: I have opened a new website: Ichiban Puroresu! Yes, I know that used to be a puroresu website back in the day. Last year when I was looking at website domains, I saw that it wasn't renewed and was going to auction the next day. Most sites when they aren't renewed become ad sites (such as my old website www.BurningLariat.com), and I didn't want that to happen to a site that so many puroresu fans had enjoyed. So I out-bid the bots to buy the domain. I have been thinking in the meantime what to do with it, but I finally decided to make it a site for new puroresu fans to help them transition. This site is just too overwhelming to lend much help to people trying to get into the sport, and I thought having a seperate and simpler site might be more beneficial. It won't be frequently updated like this one, but I will add articles from time to time and when I do I will note it on here. To check it out, you can visit the site at www.IchibanPuroresu.com. 7/22 Update: This is mostly a Joshi update from Suicidal Youth. First, I added Etsuko Mita to the Joshi Wrestlers section. I also added the following move videos to the Joshi section: Pyramid Driver and Caribbean Splash (Yumiko Hotta), Mountain Splash and Avalanche Nodowa Otoshi Combination (Yumiko Hotta and Mayumi Ozaki), Thunder Fire Powerbomb and Avalanche Nodowa Otoshi (Kyoko and Takako Inoue), Avalanche NANA*MOMO Bomb (Nanae Takahashi and Momoe Nakanishi), Axe Kick/Hell Smasher Combination and the Sheer Drop Hell Smasher (Tomoko Watanabe), Death Valley Bomb (Meiko Satomura), Death Valley Bomb and a Wrist-Clutch Death Valley Bomb (Etsuko Mita), Death Valley Bomb/Axe Kick Combination and a Death Valley Bomb/Somersault Axe Kick Combination (Etsuko Mita and Mima Shimoda), and a Tiger Suplex Hold, Axe Kick, and Somersault Axe Kick (Mima Shimoda). I also added two non-Joshi move for Zero-One MAX's Kohei Sato: Cross Armbreaker and the Harai Goshi. 7/21 Update: I'll have a big Joshi update tomorrow, but for today I have a little unrelated update. I have added the following move videos: Double Armed Belly to Belly Suplex and a Frog Splash HQ (Suwama, All Japan), STS, 2008 Version (Masahiro Chono, New Japan), Avalanche Backdrop Suplex (Bryan Danielson, Freelancers), and an Arm Trap Backdrop Suplex (Akitoshi Saito, NOAH). I'll also be uploading a new website by Wednesday, one designed to help new puroresu fans get into the promotion. 7/13 Update: Another big update. I realize it might be frustrating that I might not update the site at all for 10 days and then do three updates in a row, but weekends are generally my easiest time to get work done on the site. I am also working on a new puroresu site, which is taking up time as well. So far I have gotten seven entries for the first tournament, which is about what I was expecting since I know some of you will wait until the last minute. Just make sure you get them in by the 20th. Almost everyone has given the same time (within 20 seconds) for the Fire Festival tie-breaker, so if you are all right then it will be a very tight race if any of you end up with the same score for the tournament. Today I have a Zedi update. I have added profiles for Antonio Thomas (Freelancers), Ryuji Yamakawa, and Yuji Okabayashi (Big Japan), and Kazuaki Mihara and Naoki Setoguchi. The Osaka Pro wrestlers wrestling in Okinawa Pro-Wrestling have been updated with their new names and pictures. I have also added the following move videos to their respective profiles: Lightning Flash and a Moonsault (Akira Raijin, All Japan), KAZROCK (KAZMA, K-Dojo), Rugby Body Press (Yuko Miyamoto as Mitchie, Big Japan), Avalanche Bisontenial (Bison Smith, NOAH), Sit-Down Chokebomb (Masaru Seno as Daio QUALLT, Retired Stars), Muppotatsu (Daigoro Kashiwa, K-Dojo), XPW (Great Sasuke, Michinoku Pro), Handsome Lock, Handsome Elbow, and the Pump Kick (JOE, K-Dojo), Mudo (Kengo Mashimo, K-Dojo), Kariwa Suplex Hold (Kunio Toshima, K-Dojo), Bullet Ride (Madoka, K-Dojo), Game of Death (Masato Yakushiji, Retired Stars), Ryusei Lock (Naohiro Hoshikawa, Zero-One), Northern Lights Suplex Hold (Shinya Ishikawa, Big Japan), Just Facelock and Just Facelock 2006 (TAKA Michinoku, K-Dojo), and a Hurricanrana (Tsubasa, Osaka Pro). The K-DOJO wrestlers all have new pictures as well. Even though I don't mention it on the front page, for the last few updates Zedi has been sending me a few sentences about less well-known wrestlers to add as a brief history to their profile. So if you see a sentence or two under some of the indy wrestlers, it was probably Zedi, not me. 7/12 Update: More awesome updates! First, I have added a profile for Curt Hennig (Obituaries), Savio Vega (Freelancers), and Buddy Landel (American Stars). I have also added the following move videos: Dropkick and Japanese Drop (Akira Taue, NOAH), Belly to Belly Suplex (John Tenta, Obituaries), Body Slam and an Elbow Drop (Buddy Landel, American Stars), Perfect Plex, Dropkick, and a Second Turnbuckle Elbow Drop (Curt Hennig, Obituaries), Piledriver and a Spinning Heel Kick (Arashi, Freelancers), Super Kick (Savio Vega, Freelancers), Pescado and a Dropkick (Mitsuharu Misawa as Tiger Mask II, NOAH), Bulldog, Powerslam, Vertical Suplex, and a Piledriver (Yoshiaki Yatsu, Freelancers), and a Bottom Rope Elbow Drop (Abdullah the Butcher, Freelancers). Finally, I added a very special match: Akira Taue's debut match! Kenta Kobashi, Kikuchi, Kitahara, and Arashi were Taue's dojo mates, but Taue was the one pegged to be the future of All Japan as in his debut match he teamed with Giant Baba (instead of working the opener) and even... picked up the pinfall! A great start to a great career for Akira Taue. The match can be found under his profile. 7/11 Update: Pretty big update today. First, I added two profiles to the Retired Stars section: Johnny Ace and Killer Khan. I also added the following move videos to their respective profiles: Corner Lariat, Piledriver, Neckbreaker, and an Inverted Suplex (Steve Austin, American Stars), King Kong Knee Drop (Killer Khan, Retired Stars), Powerbomb and a Texas Cloverleaf (Hiroshi Tanahashi, New Japan), Belly to Belly Suplex into the Corner (Suwama, All Japan), Double Heel Kick and an Assisted Seated Senton (Footloose, Legendary Teams), Cartwheel Elbow Strike, Fisherman Suplex, and a Pescado (Toshiaki Kawada, Freelancers), Capture Suplex, Manjigatame, and a Lariat (Kentaro Shiga, NOAH), Sternness Dust Alpha HQ (Jun Akiyama, NOAH), STO (Naoya Ogawa, Freelancers), Oregotokarire HQ (Naoya Ogawa, Freelancers and Shinya Hashimoto, Obituaries), German Suplex Hold (Mitsuharu Misawa, NOAH), Tiger Suplex and an Avalanche Leg Drop (Kenta Kobashi, NOAH), Ace Crusher HQ and a Powerbomb (Johnny Ace, Retired Stars), and a Doomsday Device and Double Shoulderblock into Elbow Drops (Johnny Ace, Retired Stars and Steve Williams, Freelancers). The clip of the Sternness Dust Alpha is an updated one in much better quality then the one I had before. Great move, shame he never... well, uses it. Puroresu wrestlers are weird like that sometimes. Tenzan would win more if he used the Anaconda Cross too. If you have a good move that always works, then maybe you should use it more. 7/7 Update: The Dragon Gate section has been updated and the following move videos have been added: Egoist Driver HQ and AV Press HQ (Magnum TOKYO), Yokosuka Liner (Susumu Yokosuka), and the Invisible Wall (Taku Iwasa as Michael Iwasa). 7/6 Update: I have transformed Tatsumi Fujinami's profile from being pretty much empty (I only had one move video for him) to now being Enhanced. I have included for him a number of pictures, 2 special videos, a history piece, Championship History, and a rare full match. I also added 14 move videos, including the Dragon Suplex and the Dragon Backbreaker. So if you want to learn more about the original Dragon, you can find his profile under "Legends" or DRADITION. 6/30 Update: A nice hodgepodge of changes today (is that a Southern term or a National term? No way of knowing). I have added two promotions to the right: UWF and UWAI Station, each with reviews and a History written. I moved Apache Pro from the right back to the left. And finally I added a puroresu game review: Zen-Nippon Pro Wrestling. 6/29 Update: First, I added two profiles to the Freelancers section: Shigehiro Irie and Kaoru Nemoto. I also added the following move videos to their respective profiles: Spear (Shigehiro Irie, Freelancers), Cartwheel into a Moonsault (Masao Orihara, Freelancers), Cooger Lock #2 and a Double Arm Facebuster (Asian Cooger, Osaka Pro), Move that Rocks the World (Jimmy Rave, Freelancers), Wanjudo (Kanjyuuro Matsuyama, Osaka Pro), Leg Height Arm Hold (KUDO, DDT), BT Bomb (Shogo Takagi, DDT), Stereo 450 Splashes (Young Bucks, Freelancers), Walls of Futoshi (Futoshi Miwa, DDT), and a 450 Elbow (MIKAMI, DDT). 6/25 Update: I added a few move videos to Christopher Daniels' profile: Angel's Wings, Blue Thunder, and the Arabian Press. I also added a full match to Takao Omori's profile: his 2000 Champion Carnival match against Jun Akiyama! Uncut! 6/23 Update: First, I added a profile for Ron Simmons under the "American Stars in Japan" section. I also added the following move videos to their respective profiles: Piledriver and Spinebuster (Ron Simmons, American Stars), Powerbomb (Takashi Iizuka, New Japan), Plancha Suicida (Ultimo Dragon, Freelancers), Military Press Slam (Sting, American Stars), Tope Suicida (Tatsumi Fujinami, DRADITION), Avalanche DDT (Jushin Thunder Liger, New Japan), Strike Combination (Dustin Rhodes, Freelancers), Super Kick (Wataru Sakata, Hustle), and the Helicopter Slam and Argentine Backbreaker (Bob Sapp, Hustle) 6/22 Update: I finally finished my review of New Japan 1/4/93. I don't like to rush my reviews and only do them when I know I have a block of time, so that is why it took so long. I would have finished it last night but I had the Billy Joel concert (which was awesome, by the way). Anyway, "Fantastic Story in Tokyo Dome" was indeed fantastic and is probably my favorite January 4th Tokyo Dome event. Check under "New Japan Reviews" to read my thoughts on it, and for the next week you can buy the event for the discounted price of 5 Dollars, which includes shipping. Check the Puroresu Shop for details on how to order.
6/21 Update: Finally the emails wore me down, and I added a Hustle section. If you were holding your breath for a page with the hundreds of wrestlers that have been in Hustle, you can exhale now, because it isn't nearly that exciting. But I do have a profile for all the contracted wrestlers, as well as some freelancers they use. I will slowly add to the list over time no doubt, same as I do for the other promotions that I don't follow :) I also added a move video of the World Muso to Rikio's profile, just click his picture above to get to his profile. 6/13 Update: I am in the process of reviewing New Japan 1/4/93, but I had to cut a move out and add it to The Hell Raisers' (Legendary Teams) profile. It is a Doomsday Device on the outside of the ring and both Scott Steiner and Hawk kill themselves to make the move look good. A must see. I don't actually think they killed themselves on purpose, I just don't think they calculated the jump/landing right and ended up in the guard rail instead of the floor. 6/12 Update: I have added the following move videos to their respective profiles: Cobra Clutch-Style Triangle Choke Hold (Naomichi Marufuji, NOAH), Release Dragon Suplex (Hiroshi Tanahashi, New Japan), Lariat (Suwama, All Japan), Moonsault and a Moonsault to Nowhere (Masao Orihara, Freelancers), Cobra Clutch Suplex Hold (The Great Takeru, IWA Japan), and a Powerbomb, Double Underhook Powerbomb, and the Kudo Driver HQ (Megumi Kudo, Joshi Wrestlers). 6/10 Update: I am very excited about this update. I added two rare Masahiro Chono moves today: The Sliding Yakuza Kick (different then the Shining Yakuza Kick) and the FTS. I already had the FTS, but this is a higher quality longer version of it. Hooray! Also, I added the CCD to Satoshi Kojima's profile, the Shining Wizard/Shining Triangle combination to Tanahashi and Nakamura's profile and the Dragon Rocket to Tanahashi's profile. I've come to the conclusion that the first five or so puroresu reviews I did suck. In my defense, I wrote them before I got into puroresu, they were just recommended events that I wrote for my old site to give it some variety. Plus my views have changed a bit in the four years since I first reviewed them (I bitched about move set in a 13 minute bloodbath? What the hell? I remember those days....). No, I am not going to tell you which ones they are so you can run and laugh at me. But I do plan on re-doing them over the next few months, as I still own the events and they deserve better. 6/9 Update: A profile for Akira Katayama has been added under "Retired Stars" and a profile for The Orient Express has been added to the American Stars in Japan section. I also added the following move videos to their respective profiles from the event: Moonsault to the Floor and an Avalanche Somersault Kick (Masao Orihara, Freelancers), Apron Tope and a Tope Suicida (Akira Katayama, Retired Stars), Piledriver, DDT, and Kick to the Face (Kouki Kitahara, Retired Stars), Leap frog Body Guillotine and an Inverted Suplex Slam (The Orient Express, American Stars), Palm Strikes, German Suplex Hold, Powerbomb, and a Diving Headbutt to a Standing Opponent (Yoshiaki Yatsu, Freelancers), and a Powerbomb (Genichiro Tenryu, Freelancers). 6/8 2nd Update: A Career History has been written by Charles Schaeffer for Ultimo Dragon. His profile can be found under "Freelancers." 6/8 Update: I just realized that I don't have any reviews for SWS, so I did one real quick. I reviewed SWS 10/29/91, with Tenryu vs. Yatsu in the main event and with WWF sending over Warlord, Haku, Barbarian, and the Orient Express for the show. The Orient Express return home! The review can be found on the right under "SWS Reviews." Enjoy!
6/7 Update: Added two legendary tag teams that I forgot: The Road Warriors (duh) and Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody. 6/5 Update: Reader update. First, I have added the following profiles: Ken Saito (Zero-One) and Daisuke Masaoka, BJ Whitmer, and the Young Bucks (Freelancers). I have also added the following move videos to their respective profiles: Shotei (Kotaro Suzuki, NOAH), El Nudo Lagunero (Kesen Numajiro as Yone Genjin, Michinoku Pro), Stinger (MIKAMI, DDT), Henkei Half Surfboard Stretch (Daisuke Sasaki, Freelancers), Boomerang Elbow (Gorgeous Matsuno, DDT), Hammerlock STO (Genba Hirayanagi, NOAH), Teioh Lock and Miracle Ecstasy (MEN's Teioh, Big Japan), Sliding Headscissors to the Floor (Masato Yakushiji, Retired), Spear and Michael Don't Cry (Michael Nakazawa, DDT), Chemical Clutch (Mototsuga Shimizu, El Dorado), and a Tombstone Piledriver Yasu Urano, Freelancers). 6/1 Update: I have added a new sub-section: Legendary Tag Teams (under the "Legends" section on the right)! I have added 23 tag teams to the section, ranging from Rikidozan and Toyonobori to Wild II. So read, enjoy, and perhaps you might even learn something. Before I get angry emails, the term "Legendary" is used loosely, I just didn't feel like making a new section. 5/30 Update: I have added the following move videos to their respective profiles: Double Knee Drop off a Ladder (KUDO, DDT), Double Tombstone and the Joker Driver (Kotaro Suzuki, NOAH), Cross Camel Clutch, Avalanche Bulldog, and a Stunner (Katsuyori Shibata, Freelancers), and the Witchcraft, Running Sit-Down Powerbomb, Straight Jacket Powerbomb, and the Tequila Sunrise (Mayumi Ozaki, Joshi Wrestlers). I have added the following events to the Puroresu Shop (the full list can be found at the link at the top right): New Japan IWGP Tag Team Tournament 1985, All Japan vs. New Japan New Century Battle, New Japan vs. All Japan Volume 1, New Japan vs. All Japan Volume 2, Best of Kensuke Sasaki, Best of Great Muta in New Japan, New Japan 11/22/92, New Japan 11/23/92, New Japan Fighting Spirit 1995, New Japan "Big Wednesday" 9/23/98, New Japan 12/14/00, New Japan 10/28/01, New Japan 4/5/02, New Japan 4/23/03 (video quality is VG), New Japan 10/18/03, New Japan 2/15/04, New Japan 11/11/07, Kings Road 7/17/06, Hustle 11, Hustle 12, Hustle 13, Hustle 14, Hustle 15, and Hustle 28. Match listings are available for all New Japan events and can be found in the Puroresu Shop. I am still working on match listings for the rest of the events. If you need any recommendations feel free to ask. Many of these I literally just converted from VHS in the last few weeks and are not readily found on the internet, so hopefully you'll find something you like. This continues my push to get my new server paid for, I am hoping to slowly add bigger clips and some matches, so help keep the site ad free and get some quality puroresu at the same time. 5/28 Update: Since the profiles right now are pretty set up, for the next few months I am going to be working on side projects (related to the site) instead of focusing on move videos or reviews. For those that email me moves or reviews feel free to continue doing so, I will still add updates sent to me so that I don't get behind. So there will still be updates, they will just be different projects then normal. I have added a title history to Giant Baba, which is quite long. On Friday I will be doing a huge update to the Puroresu Shop, so be sure to check for that. 5/25 Update: Quick update since it is a holiday. First, I added a profile for Matt Cross, who is wrestling at the moment for NOAH as Raptor. Also, the following move videos have been added to their respective profiles: a Fake Dive, Tope Suicida, Standing Shooting Star Press, and a Springboard Double Stomp (Matt Cross as Raptor, Freelancers), Delfin Clutch HQ (Super Delfin, Osaka Pro), and the Koji Cutter (Satoshi Kojima, All Japan). I have also added the following Special Video to Keiji Mutoh and Kea's profile: Mutoh and Kea win the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship on 10/28/01 (this is the final match that gave Mutoh his six championship belts). Finally, I added a review by Mike Campbell for New Japan 11/11/07. The event featured the great main event of Tanahashi vs. Goto. Be sure to check the review out. Next Friday I am adding about 15 new events to my Puroresu Shop and I will have a 10 for 30 sale (with 3 dollars each additional disk). The sale will run through Sunday. I am hoping to make enough this weekend to pay for the site in June, that way I don't have to worry about putting any ads up and I can keep adding new matches. So start looking through the shop and see what you'd like, and I'll post new events (including just converted New Japan events and HUSTLE events) Friday afternoon. 5/24 Update: I added more match listings to the Puroresu Shop, so if you are looking for a certain match or wrestler it will be much easier now. Completed are New Japan, All Japan, NOAH, Dragon Gate (etc.), Michinoku Pro, Big Japan, and the Super J Cups. Just click on any event within a promotion to go to that promotion's Match Listing page. I also added a move video for the Schwein Redline Hold HQ to CIMA's profile. 5/22 Update: I added a very special move video today: the Roppongi Crash! I am not even sure how many times Honma and Miyamoto (both freelancers) used the move, but it is absolutely brutal. So be sure to check it out. Yes, I get excited about finding videos of rare moves. I also added a brainbuster for Miyamoto. 5/19 Update: Stan Hansen's profile has been enhanced. The Career History had already been written (its pretty puro-dumbed down, as I had written it for my old website originally) but I added a title history, biggest matches, five pictures, and eight move videos. So enjoy. 5/18 3rd Update: I went ahead and emphasized all profiles that have extra information so that they are easy to find if you wanted a more in-depth profile. Right now, I think that Kobashi, Mutoh, Sasaki, Onita, Miyamoto, Misawa, Tanahashi, Nakamura, Vader, Sayama, and Kojima are the only wrestlers that have career histories written and expanded information. More will be slowly added time at no particular rate, but I'll let you know as more are put onto the site. Also, the roster pages for All Japan and Dragon Gate have been changed to show the recent faction changes. 5/18 3rd Update: I am slowing adding match listings for the DVDs for sale in the Puroresu Shop. Today I added match listings for New Japan. Click on any New Japan event and it will automatically bring you to the New Japan Event match listing page. I hope to do one section a day so it should be done by next week. In the meantime if you have any questions about match listings feel free to ask. I'll have about 10 new events to add on Wednesday, and of course they are always discounted when I add new events so be sure to check back then. 5/18 2nd Update: I have added a Career History for Hulk Hogan and Kazushi Miyamoto. Random? Perhaps.... but what can ya do. I also added a few new move videos to Miyamoto's profile as well as new pictures. Finally, I added a Career History for Satoshi Kojima, written by Charles Schaeffer. |
