PRO WRESTLING WAVE on V*PARADISE #146 - #149
A Review by Kevin Wilson

Reviewing Pro Wrestling WAVE can be annoying as they sometimes put out their shows in the form of random matches from random dates on a series called "V*PARADISE."  But I don’t want to just not review them so what we get is an odd hodgepodge of matches.  I am going to put them in order for this review from shows #146 to #149 to make it easier to follow.  But we do have some big matches here, including a title defense.  The matches being reviewed are:

Wave 2/11/15:
- Kaho Kobayashi vs. Manami Toyota
- Meiko Satomura vs. Shuu Shibutani
- Maki Narumiya and Risa Sera vs. Mio Shirai and Misaki Ohata vs. vs. Mika Iida and Sakura Hirota
- Regina Di WAVE Championship: Hikaru Shida vs. Ayako Hamada
- Aya Mizunami vs. Yumi Ohka

Wave 2/22/15:
- Ayako Hamada, Tsubasa Kuragaki, and Yamagata vs. Hikaru Shida, Ryo Mizunami, and Ohka

Wave 2/24/15:
- Sakura Hirota vs. Shuu Shibutani

Wave 3/4/15:
- Hiroe Nagahama and Moeka Haruhi vs. Kana and Rina Yamashita

Let’s get to it!

Meiko Satomura vs. Shuu Shibutani
This match is from February 11th, 2015.  Shibutani hits Mongolian Chops and she rolls up Satomura for a two count.  Kicks by Satomura and she hits a double kneedrop for two.  Back up they trade strikes, which Shibutani wins and she hits a DDT for two.  Shibutani goes up top but Satomura knocks her to the apron.  Shibutani snaps her neck over the top rope and hits another DDT.  Shibutani goes up top and hits a missile dropkick for two.  Shibutani picks up Satomura but Satomura trips her and kicks her in the back.  Sleeper by Satomura but Shibutani is too close to the ropes.  More strikes by Satomura and she hits the cartwheel kneedrop.  Satomura picks up Shibutani but Shibutani rolls her up for two.  Elbow by Shibutani and she hits a Northern Lights Suplex for a two count.  Satomura gets the sleeper on again and this time Shibutani can’t reach the ropes and she taps out!  A bit of a step down from the previous match, it was more clipped and what was shown was a bit disjointed.  It wasn’t bad but it was too flat for me, obviously the clipping didn't help that.  Score:  4.0

Maki Narumiya and Risa Sera vs. Mio Shirai and Misaki Ohata vs. vs. Mika Iida and Sakura Hirota
This match is from February 11th, 2015.  A wrestler from each team is legal at all times but it breaks down pretty quickly to wrestlers doing whatever they want.  It was mostly playful to start, Hirota gets on the ropes with Ohata and Narumiya on both sides, but they applaud her which causes her to fall when they let go.  Just the cute little stuff you’d expect.  Hirota does what I generally call an Oil Check but I can’t see where she aimed so uh she may have been checking something else.  Narumiya is planted with a DDT, Hirota does a handstand in the corner but Ohata hits her with a whip.  Ohata and Shirai hit double crossbodies but Sera runs in to help.  Narumiya suplexes Hirota onto Ohata but it gets a two count.  Iida goes up top and hits a missile dropkick on Sera but Ohata hits a running crossbody on her and tags in Shirai.  Shirai plants Sera with a double underhook facebuster, then hits a heel drop on Iida.  Narumiya kicks Shirai from the apron, Sera slams Shirai to the mat but the pin is broken up.  Scoop slam by Narumiya, Sera goes up top but Iida and Hirota run in to interfere.  Sera hits a modified Schwein on Iida but that’s broken up, Hirota suplexes Narumiya but Ohata  knocks Hirota to the mat.  Sera dropkicks Ohata, Sera grabs Shirai but Shirai gets away.  Iida flips Shirai to the mat but Shirai rolls her over and applies the Tsuchigumo for the three count!  This was just a fun filler type match that suits most of these women well.  Utterly lacking in substance but it was short so not anything offensive.  Score:  5.0

(c) Hikaru Shida vs. Ayako Hamada
This match is from February 11th, 2015 and is for the Regina Di WAVE Championship.  They go to the mat straight away, back up Shida goes for a hip attack but Hamada catches her.  Dropkick by Shida and she hits a rolling slap into the corner.  She does it again, Hamada hits her back and does her own front roll into a slap.  Hamada goes up top but Shida hits her from behind, Hamada slides away and she dropkicks Shida in the corner.  Back bodydrop by Shida and she hits a sliding kick.  Irish whip by Shida but Hamada hits a quebrada off the side ropes for a two count.  Hamada picks up Shida but Shida gets away, vertical suplex by Shida but Hamada suplexes her back.  Kick to the back of the head by Hamada and she hits an enzigieri, sending Shida toppling out of the ring.  Hamada goes up top but Shida jumps up on the apron and pushes her back into the ring.  Shida goes up top but Hamada grabs her and drops her off the top with a two count.  Dropkick by Shida and she hits an enzigieri, sending Hamada out of the ring.  Shida goes up top and dives out onto Hamada with a plancha suicida.  Knee by Shida, she gets on the second turnbuckle and brings Hamada back into the ring with a vertical suplex.  Shida goes up top and she hits a missile dropkick for a two count.  Running knee by Shida, but that gets a two as well.  They trade strike attempts, Shida drives Hamada into her knee for a two count.  Hamada gets Shida on her shoulders and hits a front slam, and both wrestlers are out on the mat.  Shida goes off the ropes but Hamada nails a lariat for two.  Hamada goes up top and she hits a missile dropkick, she drags Shida to her feet and hits a sit-down powerbomb but Shida rolls her up for two.  Jumping kick by Hamada, cover, but it gets a two count.  Back up, small package by Shida and she hits a Falcon Arrow.  Back up, kick combination by Hamada, she picks up Shida and hits another kick for a two count.  Hamada picks up Shida, she nails the AP Cross for the three count.  Hamada is your new champion!  This match was borderline fantastic.  It was great to see Shida in a serious match and Hamada has always been quality, and wrestlers do tend to step it up in title matches.  Lots of hard hits, big moves, no wasted time whatsoever, it just delivered from start to finish.  Definitely recommend checking it out.  Score:  8.5

Aya Mizunami vs. Yumi Ohka
This match is from February 11th, 2015.  Mizunami quickly hits a spear to start, she avoids Ohka’s boot and Ohka lands on the apron.  Mizunami spears Ohka off the apron and she hits a leg lariat off the apron.  Back in the ring and she elbows Ohka in the corner.  Ohka finally hits a big boot but Mizunami fires back with elbows.  They trade strikes, leg drops by Mizunami and she covers Ohka for two.  Mizunami picks up Ohka but Ohka gets away and hits a cross-arm backstabber.  Ohka works over Mizunami’s leg but Mizunami hits a German suplex.  Mizunami puts Ohka on the top rope and she hits a leg drop.  Jumping leg lariat by Mizunami, but it gets two.  Spear by Mizunami, she goes up top but Ohka avoids the diving guillotine leg drop.  Big boot by Ohka, she picks up Mizunami and they trade elbows.  Ohka goes off the ropes but Mizunami hits a lariat.  Mizunami picks up Ohka but Ohka slides away and kicks her, they trade lariats/big boots until Ohka hits a backdrop suplex.  Brainbuster by Ohka and she hits a heel drop.  Belly to belly suplex by Mizunami but Ohka boots her back.  Ohka goes up top, Mizunami joins her and she hits a Frankensteiner.  Ohka snaps off a vertical suplex but Mizunami hits a lariat for two.  They trade elbows on their knees, Mizunami gets Ohka on her shoulders and slams her to the mat.  Dragon suplex hold by Mizunami but it gets two.  Mizunami goes off the ropes, chokebomb by Mizunami but Ohka rolls on top for two.  Spear by Mizunami but Ohka boots her.  Big boot by Ohka, cover, but Mizunami gets a shoulder up.  Tiger suplex by Ohka, she hits a final big boot and picks up the three count! Mizunami was awesome here, I am not too familiar with her but really impressed.  She even reined in Ohka which is quite a feat.   The no selling was a bit excessive at times but it bothers me less in the main event, and it was just nonstop goodness.  Really  pleasantly  surprised here, very strong match, loved the energy.  Score:  7.5

Final Thoughts:

If you focus on the matches from 2/11 and just consider the rest extra, this was a really entertaining event package.  There were two matches I’d recommend any fan of joshi to watch, and several others that were solid.  I’d recommend this one just for the two major matches from 2/11 but there is enough else here to hold your interest, overall a fun show.
