2008 Recap:
Kono is a Mixed Martial Arts fighter and as of yet has not appeared in a New Japan ring in a professional wrestling capacity.

2009 Recap:
After spending many years in MMA, Kono made his return to All Japan on May 17th and committed to full time wrestling again. He pinned Kojima in his debut match, showing that he was back with a vengeance and ready to take his rightful place on the card. Things slowed a bit for Kono after that and he was only on the third match on the card at the Sumo Hall event in August. When Funaki joined, Kono quickly got a singles match against the legend but Funaki came out victorious. Kono took part in the Real World Tag League, teaming with Suwama, and the pair did great as they reached the Finals before losing to Keiji Mutoh and Masakatsu Funaki.
