For the fourth time since I started doing reviews online in 2004, I am making a small adjustment to the way that I score wrestling events. This is a pretty major change so I wanted to mention it in case it throws anybody off.

I have always had an issue with star ratings (partly why I have never used them). I've seen some reviewers just use ** as average, some use **1/2 as average, some give out **** like candy while others make it a "must see" match. I thought by using actual numbers it would be easier to understand, as "5" is clearly average (right?). But then I had a common issue when doing a score, what is the difference between a 6 and a 6.5? If I didn't know, how could I expect people reading my reviews to know? I realized even though I was using numbers that people probably did the same thing when reading my reviews as I do when I read reviews - read the thoughts of the match but not really care about the actual score.

So I have officially abolished the score from my reviews, they won't be used anymore. I am not going back and changing old reviews, I've never done that when I make changes, but it will be for all future reviews. Now, matches that I don't recommend on any level just won't get a score at all. I will give a few thoughts but then move on to the next match, because if I don't recommend watching a match it doesn't really matter if it was a "4" or a "5." I will however have three levels of recommendation that I will use when applicable. So at the end of each match you'll see the following now:

(nothing) - Not recommended to seek out the match
Mildly Recommended - Has flaws but still worth watching
Recommended - Entertaining match
Highly Recommended - Potential MOTYC, go watch it now!

And that is it. I'll still use a Grade at the end, but that is more for fans of complete shows, I realize these days most events are posted match by match online so the overall event review doesn't really matter in those cases. I hope that this makes it easier to determine if it is a match I'd recommend seeing, and then if it is a complete show I'd recommend.
